HISTORY
Heath House Mills was built in 1861 by TW Thorpe, with an eye to the Industrial Revolution. It was the perfect location, with a ready supply of water from the natural springs of Bolster Moor high in the Colne Valley. A mill pond was built at the end of Heath House Lane to store the water to power the steam-powered looms.
Families moved to Golcar from Elland and Huddersfield for work, with 21 houses being registered in 1851. At the busiest period in the life of the mill, 97 people were employed.
