Black Dyke Mills
Black Dyke Mills was the most famous in Yorkshire. Today, it is a large complex of 400,000 sqft of space between Halifax and Bradford, and views over the hills of Brontë Country.
HISTORY
Black Dyke Mills started as a much smaller operation in 1819 when John Foster started producing fine worsted and mohair fabric here. The operation is no longer here, but John Foster still produces some of the world’s finest Worsted and Mohair cloths and has gained a worldwide reputation for quality.
For decades Black Dyke Mills was the most famous in Yorkshire. It became such a prominent part of the local landscape that a village grew up around it to accommodate the burgeoning workforce. It was an innovative factory with power looms, a fire service and gas works supplying the village and the mill.
Queensbury is one of the highest parishes in England, with views beyond the West Yorkshire conurbation to the hills of Brontë Country and the Yorkshire Dales to the north and north west.
